Mating

People who know me often laugh when I make a comment about "two humans mating on T.V., or sometimes almost in public". Not laughing as the pair of mating humans, but at me saying 'humans' and 'mating' opposed to: Those two people look as if they are almost having sex.

We tend to downplay the fact that we are only animals mating on this planet. People seem to think they are so different from a dog or an elephant, when in fact they are not.

I see people sensationalizing their own sex lives, and how they can choose one partner one day and another partner the next, not unlike an animal might. The one difference however is jealousy.

Jealousy is what separates us from most animals, but somehow we still seem to think we can be as sexually 'free' as we want to be without any emotional consequences. As we all know, this is never the case. Cheating mates often leads to instability in most relationships (even if they both agreed it was alright to engage in). More often then not, this will eventually cause the relationship to fail.

So what can we learn from this?

1. If you are in a relationship, don't cheat. Seems easy, but it might be more tricky than you might assume. It seems things like alcohol and other intoxicants lead people to making decisions they would not normally make. So control your intake! And ultimately remember, as a human, YOU HAVE A CHOICE in all matters concerning your life.

2. If you decide you are going to engage in adulatory behavior then at least have the courtesy to end one relationship before you begin another. 99% of the time people try to "double deal" they end up alone in the end and less than fulfilled emotionally.

In summation, mating humans are often regarded as being above any animal-esque behaviors. However, as we all see they are certainly not and I often cannot see the difference. I still believe that we have an intellectual advantage over other creatures in this world, it is up to us whether we decide to use it or not.
